Communication from Mr. Donahue

Dear Falcon Families,

It is that time of year again, we are getting ready for another exciting school year. I Hope everyone has had an enjoyable and safe summer. In order to help you plan out the rest of your summer and do your back to school planning, For every student, and especially freshman students, the start of the school year can be a time of uncertainty as they learn a new schedule, or a new school, or a new town for students who have moved to FHHS. We have set up a number of start-of-school events to help make the transition a smooth one and encourage students and families to participate in these events:

  1. ALC Orientation is Monday, 8/15/22, at 6:00 PM at Central Crossing High School.

  2. Freshman Orientation is Tuesday, 8/16/22, from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. This is for all freshmen starting at Franklin Heights this school year. It is a great event for students to see the school, make new connections, and learn about what high school is like for new students. Students will also be issued their chromebook for the 2022-2023 school year. Students who ride the school bus should have received a card in the mail with a date, time, and pick up location for transportation to this event. Parents are welcome for an informational meeting from 3:00 - 3:30 in the auditorium A closing session with students will be from 3:30 - 4:00. All students will need to provide their own mode of transportation home from Franklin Heights at 4:00 PM.

  3. Schedule pick up / form completion for returning students is Wednesday, 8/17/22, from 5:00-7:00 PM. At this event, families can pick up student schedules for the upcoming school year, sign out a chromebook for the school year, complete the application for free/reduced lunch for the upcoming school year (breakfast & lunch is not free for everyone this upcoming school year), and students in 11th & 12th grade who need to opt in to school transportation can do this at this event.

  4. First home football game is Friday, 8/19/22, versus Hamilton Twp. HS at 7:00PM. Admission is $7.

  5. Open House for all families is Monday, 8/22/22, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Franklin Heights High School.

  6. The first day of school is Wednesday, 8/24/22. School hours are from 8:00 AM - 3:20 PM. The school opens at 7:00 AM. Breakfast is served from 7:15 AM - 7:45 AM.

I’d like to welcome & introduce our new certificated staff members for this coming school year:

  • Dion Hewell, NJROTC

  • Claire Puthoff, Math

  • Kaylee Bostard, Math

  • Jennifer Iles, Intervention Specialist

  • Tyler Crease, Science

  • Leah Walter, Science

  • Chelsea Alkire, TESOL

All students are encouraged to find a club, activity, or sport to join; students who are involved are more likely to be successful in school. We have a list of clubs and activities at FHHS available on our website, fhhs.swcsd.us that students can explore and will have opportunities throughout the fall to learn more about our many clubs and activities.

The start of the year is always an exciting time - one of renewal, fresh starts, and new opportunities. I encourage students to consider each day what their goals are, what are their future plans, enroll in postsecondary education, go directly into employment, or enlist in the military - and how can the things they do at FHHS help them achieve those goals. All staff members can help with these goals or explore what opportunities are available; throughout the year, students are welcome to work with any of their teachers, their counselor, the administrators, or other staff here in the building to ensure their success. High school is a team effort and we thank you for your continued partnership and support. If there is anything we can assist with to start the year, please reach out to our office.

The main office is open everyday from 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Administrators are on duty everyday if you have questions. School counselors are on duty and available for consultation. Please do not hesitate to stop by the school with any questions or to call the main office at (614) 801-3200.

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the summer break.

Be nice/work hard/have fun. Go Falcons!

Regards,

Tim Donahue, Principal
